Picture number 104 in my iPhone – Trout.

Trout Zuni San Francisco

Where was this taken?  Zuni Cafe in San Francisco, California, an outstanding restaurant in Hayes Valley neighborhood on Market Street by Gough Street.  In my opinion, San Francisco is one of the two cities in the world that consistently have the most amazing restaurants (the other city is Lisbon, Portugal).  If you are in San Francisco, go to Zuni Cafe (but make a reservation).

What is it?  This is trout roasted in their brick oven – flavorful, moist, and fresh – served with potatoes, dill, and sauteed greens (my memory says chard but not sure).  I ate every last bite of this meal.

Who was I with?  One of my great college friends that lives in Palo Alto and his beautiful, fun, kind wife.

One other thing about Zuni Cafe:  their house dish that they are famous for is a brick oven roasted chicken for two.  The menu notes that it takes an hour to prepare from when you order it.  By all means, order the chicken as it is worth it.  Get some drinks, have an appetizer, enjoy each other’s company for an hour and you will have a meal worth remembering.
