This was one of my first posts, and one of my favorites. All photos of these beautiful male lions in Botswana were taken by me. Please enjoy and if you ever get a chance to go Botswana its an amazing country.
See videos of The King of the Jungle! in African Safari Part 7 – Lion Videos but I recommend you read this post first for perspective (and some beautiful still shots).

Emmanuel noticed scavenger birds gathering and suggested, “Let’s go see what it there.” We came across these two brothers. Seeing a lion in nature gave me an adrenaline rush combined with the awe of these beautiful, graceful, powerful, elegant, confident animals.
Even resting, their front arms ripped with muscle and their rear legs showed extreme power.

This reminds me of the three weeks I spent in Tanzania back in 2007. I was fortunate to be able to spend a day in the Serengeti Wildlife Preserve.

That must have been an amazing experience. I have seen awe-inspiring pictures from Serengeti. I am curious which animal was your favorite to see in the wild? (Mine was lions which is probably obvious from my post).

The animals there seemed oblivious to our presence. I could have reached out of our vehicle and petted a female lion, but it was suggested I not do that 😎. The most amazing animals were the oxen. They were as big as a VW Microbus, but more solid.

Do it for sure! One advice is decide which animals are of most interest to you then decide where to in Africa to go on safari based on that. For me it was big cats so Botswana was great.

Great post and stunning photos. I spent two weeks touring Botswana and Zambia a few years ago. Highlights included camping on the Okavango and a day trip into Zimbabwe to visit the lion conservation trust. Some great memories that I should get round to writing about. Good luck with your travels.

Great post and I agree that Botswana is an amazing country. We actually didn’t see lions there but saw lots in Namibia, South Africa, and Zambia (leopards and cheetahs too). Your post brings back wonderful memories. There’s nothing like seeing big cats!

Thank you Caroline and yes seeing a big cat is amazing. The one cat we never did see what the cheetah – that had to be a special experience. Glad you saw the lions in the other countries. Namibia is a place I am thinking of going.
